How We Grew 0 to 4000+ Followers in 1 Month
Growing on social media isn't about getting lucky with one viral video. It's about building a brand that people genuinely want to come back to.
When we launched Home Croissanterie's TikTok, our goal wasn't simply to chase views. We wanted to build awareness, establish trust, and create a community that would eventually walk through the café doors.
Within the first month, we grew the account from 0 to 4,000+ followers using fewer than 20 posts. But the number that actually mattered was this: at least 20 customers walked in and told us, unprompted, that they'd found us on TikTok.
Viral Doesn't Always Mean Valuable
One of the biggest misconceptions in social media is that every viral video is a success.
A trending sound or relatable meme can generate hundreds of thousands of views, but if viewers scroll past, laugh, and never return, it hasn't delivered. People are constantly discovering new creators, but they're also becoming far more selective about who earns a follow.
The question we ask before creating any piece of content isn't "Will this go viral?" It's "How do we connect with our audience and potential audience?"
The Strategy: Build a Brand People Connect With
Home Croissanterie is an artisan bakery in Balmain known for handcrafted pastries, specialty coffee and genuine hospitality.
The challenge wasn't creating a premium brand, that already existed offline. The challenge was translating that experience into content that would resonate online without compromising the brand's identity.
Instead of trying to manufacture viral moments, we focused on the people behind the business. Because neighbourhood cafés aren't built on products alone. They're built on relationships.
Regular customers return because they know the staff. They trust the quality. They feel part of the community. We wanted the social content to create that same feeling for people who had never visited before.
The Content Pillars
Our strategy centred around two complementary pillars: expertise and community.
1. Expertise Builds Credibility
We featured the owner/head pastry chef explaining his craft, from lamination techniques and recipe development to reducing waste in production.
Rather than simply showing beautiful pastries, we revealed the skill, care and thought behind every product. This type of content positioned Home Croissanterie as an authority while giving audiences a reason to trust the brand long before making their first visit.
2. Community Builds Connection
Alongside educational content, we focused on showcasing the café's personality and the relationships that make a neighbourhood café special.
Our content followed the head barista and café all-rounder through genuine interactions that would normally only be experienced by customers who walked through the doors. From recalling regulars' coffee orders and remembering personal preferences, to casual conversations with customers and genuine daily interactions between the team, we captured the small details that demonstrated exceptional hospitality.
We also interviewed customers to share their personal experiences - why they visited, what they ordered, and what kept them coming back. These stories helped potential customers see beyond the products and understand the feeling of being part of the Home Croissanterie community.
The result was content that didn't just showcase a café, but showcased an experience. It felt warm, authentic and “homey”, giving viewers a reason to connect with the brand before they ever visited.
